Many students who take part in IMANI study groups improve their academic performance by a letter grade or more.
IMANI study groups have been offered in Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, English, and History. The sessions are led by certified high school teachers or professionals with formal training in the subject area in which they are tutoring.
Study groups provide a safe learning environment for peer mentoring and tutoring.
This helps students:
- become more comfortable asking questions about challenging concepts
- gain a better grasp of subject matter
- develop more confidence in their ability to succeed in higher level classes
- feel less isolated in the classroom
“My high schooler was very reluctant to participate in the study group. This year, I gently coaxed him into trying it. Being with other motivated kids helped him realize that there are other students who are working hard. They are all good role models. We are grateful to IMANI for helping to give some discipline and structure to his academic life.”
