Montclair Public Schools

The Montclair school district features a magnet school program for grades K-8, as well as a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12 that includes distinctive small learning communities, a ninth grade academy, and 25 Advanced Placement courses. Our schools serve over 6,700 students from diverse backgrounds.

The district is actively involved in the Minority Student Achievement Network, a national coalition of multiracial, suburban-urban school districts that are committed to sharing strategies for reducing the achievement gap.

IMANI is pleased to partner with the Montclair Public Schools to enhance the quality of education for all students in the district.

Montclair High School

Montclair High School is a highly diverse public high school serving approximately 1,975 students in grades 9-12. MHS has a very comprehensive, rigorous curriculum in all subject areas. IMANI collaborates with the high school by offering study groups and summer programs that help prepare students to succeed in challenging courses and feel connected to the school community.

The Montclair High School Guidance Office  is the primary resource for MHS students embarking on the college search process. A college counselor meets with each student and his or her parent or guardian in the spring of the junior year and then again in the fall of the senior year to review graduation requirements, present an overview of the college application process, and advise on college selection. The IMANI College Advocacy Center works closely with the MHS Guidance Office to help students research the schools on their preliminary college list and determine which ones might be the best fit for the student’s interests, academic profile, career goals, and financial concerns. Once a list of target, reach, and safety schools has been compiled, IMANI teams up with the Guidance Office to provide assistance with completing applications, reviewing college acceptances, and making a final decision about post-graduation plans.

The Princeton Review

The Princeton Review, one of the nation’s leading providers of test prep services, partners with IMANI to offer SAT prep classes at low cost to a select group of MHS juniors. Taught by rigorously trained Princeton Review teachers, this intensive course presents test-taking strategies that can boost scores by 100 points or more. 

Revolution Prep

Revolution Prep, which partners with IMANI to provide a summer SAT prep course for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, has earned a reputation for providing highly effective yet affordable test preparation by improving upon traditional educational tools and creating new and innovative solutions to academic problems.

The Writers Room Program

The Writers Room Program founded in 1993, trains community volunteers in methods of evaluating and encouraging student writing. The writing coaches then work alongside classroom teachers to guide students in revising and improving what they write. In partnership with IMANI, The Writers Room Program adapted its highly successful revision-based writing approach to train volunteer essay coaches for the IMANI College Advocacy Center.
